Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of people talk about retiring and how they plan to do volunteer work to keep themselves busy.
Young though I am (hey, it’s all relative!) I retired from the City of Chattanooga at the end of 2019. I kept working of course and one thing led to another, and on 13 February 2023 I started my new job as Director of Website Development with Media Cause after contracting with them since November 2022.
Media Cause is a marketing firm solely devoted to helping non-profits. Since I began working with them as a contractor, I was struck by a couple of things. For one, the people who work there are amazing: supportive, happy, talented, and dedicated. Secondly, the clients are wonderful people who work for a diverse range of organizations that have in common the fact that they’re all devoted to making the world a better place.
I feel incredibly fortunate that I happened across their job posting on Remotive, that we hit it off in the interviews, and that they chose me to join their ranks. This is no ordinary company, and these aren’t average people… I’ve been around long enough to know excellence when I see it, and in this group I see it at every turn.
Somehow I managed to retire, go to work for a lot of great causes, and still get paid for it.
